International & Online Marriage Services for Canada Couples
E-Marriages assists couples living in Canada with cross-border marriage planning, online or remote marriage questions, proxy marriage, Pakistan-based marriage procedures and overseas marriage documentation. Some couples are both in Canada, while others have one partner in Pakistan, the UK, USA, Europe, the Middle East or another country.
Marriage solemnisation and licensing in Canada are primarily provincial or territorial matters, so the relevant province or territory should be identified before relying on any general online marriage information. Contact E-Marriages with both parties’ nationality, residence and the proposed marriage jurisdiction for a case-specific assessment.
International Marriage for Canadian Residents
Canadian residents may marry in Canada or abroad. Where one partner is overseas, the couple may need to decide whether the marriage should be contracted in Canada, Pakistan or another jurisdiction. That choice affects attendance, registration, documentation and later recognition.
See our International Marriage Services page for the broader framework.
Online Marriage for Canada Couples
“Online marriage” is a broad term and should not be treated as one Canada-wide procedure. Remote participation, licence requirements and solemnisation rules can differ by province or territory. In other cases, a Canada-based party may participate in a marriage legally contracted outside Canada.
A video call alone should not be assumed to create a marriage valid for every Canadian purpose. The governing law and formalities must be identified first. See Online Marriage Services.
Proxy Marriage and Marriage Through Attorney
If one partner cannot travel, the couple may ask whether representation is legally available in the proposed marriage jurisdiction. Where permitted, a special power of attorney may require precise drafting, notarisation, attestation or consular formalities.
See Proxy Marriage & Marriage Through Attorney.
Pakistan Marriage for Canada-Based Couples
Where Pakistan is the appropriate jurisdiction, our associated teams in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi can assess the available process and coordinate relevant marriage documentation, representation, registration and certificates where legally available.
Pakistan-based cases may involve Muslim Nikah, court-marriage guidance, Christian or Hindu marriage documentation, special powers of attorney or marriage registration. Canada is a client market for E-Marriages and is not represented here as a physical office location.
Marriage by Religion for Canadian Clients
Religious validity and civil recognition should be considered separately. Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, civil and interfaith couples may have different solemnisation and registration requirements. Visit Marriage by Religion for the relevant pathway.
Marriage Certificate for Canada Use
A foreign marriage certificate may be required for immigration, civil-status matters, family law, banking, insurance or other administrative purposes. The receiving authority may request an original, certified copy, translation or additional authentication.
See our Marriage Certificate page.
Documents Commonly Reviewed
- Canadian or foreign passports.
- CNIC/NICOP for Pakistani parties where relevant.
- Proof of age and residence where required.
- Evidence of current marital status.
- Divorce decree or former spouse’s death certificate where applicable.
- Marriage contract or registration record.
- Special power of attorney where representation is permitted.
- Certified translations and document authentication where required.
Recognition of an Overseas Marriage in Canada
Recognition of an overseas marriage is a legal question separate from the ceremony itself. The relevant authority may consider whether the marriage was valid where contracted, whether the parties had legal capacity and whether any Canadian public-policy or evidential issue arises.
Because marriage solemnisation is not governed by one single Canada-wide process, the relevant province or territory and the purpose for which the marriage is being relied upon should be identified.
Marriage and Canadian Immigration
A marriage certificate may be important evidence in a family sponsorship or immigration matter, but the legal validity of the marriage and immigration eligibility are separate questions. Authorities may request proof of identity, termination of prior marriages, authenticity of records and evidence concerning the relationship.
E-Marriages does not guarantee sponsorship approval, permanent residence, citizenship or any immigration outcome.
How We Assess a Canada-Based International Marriage Case

- Confirm age, marital status and religion where relevant.
- Select the proposed marriage jurisdiction.
- Check personal attendance, remote participation and proxy requirements.
- Prepare the required marriage or authority documents.
- Complete registration and obtain the appropriate marriage record.
- Prepare the documents for the intended Canadian authority or purpose.
Frequently Asked Questions for Canada Couples
Can I marry someone in Pakistan while I remain in Canada?
Possibly, depending on the marriage type and whether the applicable Pakistan procedure permits representation or another remote arrangement. The facts must be reviewed first.
Is online marriage legal across Canada?
No single answer applies nationally. Marriage solemnisation rules are provincial or territorial, so the relevant jurisdiction should be checked.
Can a proxy marriage be recognised in Canada?
Potentially, depending on how and where the marriage was contracted and the purpose for which it is later relied upon. Recognition and immigration treatment are separate questions.
Can a Pakistan marriage certificate be used in Canada?
Potentially, but the receiving authority may require the correct registration record, translation or authentication and may examine the underlying validity of the marriage.
Do you have an office in Canada?
No physical Canada office is represented on this site. Canada is a client market, while our Pakistan-based coordination includes Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
How do we start?
Send the relevant province or territory where applicable, both parties’ nationality and residence, religion where relevant, marital status, proposed marriage jurisdiction and intended use of the marriage documents.
